Awesome! You want to start your own blog? Maybe to talk about the latest in Entertainment or cooking perhaps? Today you’d see how easy it is to start your own Self hosted blog and begin sharing those awesome ideas.
Just to be clear there are Hosted blogs such as Wix, Squarespace, WordPress.com and Blogger, and there are Self-hosted blogs i.e WordPress.org. The difference being that on Self-hosted blogs have better control and flexibility to edit, update and upgrade a vast amount of features on your Blog.
Hosted blogs on the other hand are somewhat easier to setup, and are mostly free, but have a lot of limitations in design, content you are allowed to post on your blog etc. Plus its more “professional” to have a Self-hosted blog rather than a hosted one.
Lets get Started!
First you’d need a domain name, like lifemademe.com, and you’d need a host to make your website available online to be viewed by the world! There are lots of hosting companies out there. Some popular ones include:
Click on Domains at the top of your page and select “Register a new Domain”.
This will lead you to this page below, where you can type in a domain name and check if its available. Lets check if the domain name kool.ng is available.
Awesome! Now we can add that domain name to our cart by pressing the “Add to cart” button.
Now it’s time to get hosting for our new domain. Click on “No Hosting! Click to Add” to select a hosting plan that suites your needs.
*Confirm the Domain name you want to apply that hosting to.
Proceed to Checkout.
After you have successfully paid for your new website, the full details of the website including the technical details will be sent to your email. But don’t be overwhelmed. All you need right now is the cPanel details. Visit your special cPanel link and login (all details including login details in the email from WhoGoHost).
Scroll down to SOFTACULOUS APPS INSTALLER and click on “WordPress”.
Now click on “Install Now”. On the next page fill in your username, password, choose a theme for you website etc. and approve it.
Now you can login to your brand new WordPress dashboard by adding “wp-admin” to the end of your website domain eg kool.ng/wp-admin.
Congratulations! Remember you can always contact which ever host you use if you bump into any issues. Happy blogging!0
